Tech Initiatives

Longford Post Primary Tech Awards

In 2024, 5th Year Computer Science students achieved outstanding success at the Longford Post Primary Tech Awards. The team earned an impressive second place in the Overall Category and also took home the Microsoft Ireland Award. Additionally, another student secured the Best Presented Project Award. The competition challenged students to apply their Leaving Certificate Computer Science knowledge to real-life applications, and their innovative projects stood out. A special thanks to their teacher, Mr. Quinn for his support and guidance. Well done to all involved!

VEX Robotics

We’re thrilled to receive VEX Robotics equipment worth €5,000, delivered by Longford County Council as part of the Midlands Regional Enterprise Plan Pathway for Just Transition Project. This initiative is funded by the Government of Ireland and the EU Just Transition Fund Programme 2021-2027. Our 3rd-year students are already diving into the new robotics gear, and we’re looking forward to competing with other Longford schools in a VEX Robotics competition at the end of January 2025.

Dream Big Initiative

Fifth-year Computer Science students participated in the ATIM Dreambig Initiative in Longford. This program offered exposure to the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) and local industries, including Abbott, Avery, Panelto, Circuliere, N&E Precision, and Longford County Council. The week concluded with an award ceremony at TUS, attended by the students and their teacher.

Schools Digital Champions Project

As part of the Schools Digital Champions Project under the National Digital Strategy, Templemichael College students undertook a project to enhance digital skills in the school community. Their work included creating a website with tutorials and resources and delivering coding lessons to primary school students. The team participated in training, visited Accenture’s Dock to explore technology and innovation, and showcased their project at Google’s Foundry alongside schools from across the country. They were awarded certificates and attended talks by industry leaders from YouTube, Samsung, and Google, marking a proud achievement for our school!
