Junior Cycle

From 2022, all Junior Cycle subjects and short courses have been revised and the old Junior Certificate has been fully phased out. The Junior Cycle places a focus on key skills and has a new approach to both assessment and reporting.

Students typically study 8-10 subjects during the Junior Cycle, depending on the school's curriculum.

Option subjects for Junior Cycle:

We offer a wide variety of optional subjects for Junior Cycle. First Years select 4 option subjects to study for Junior Cycle. These will be chosen in the spring prior to starting. Terminal Exams:
At the end of 3rd Year, students sit state exams for their core and optional subjects. 
Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs):
Throughout 2nd and 3rd Year, students complete two CBAs per subject to showcase their skills and knowledge. These are assessed by the teacher.

Free schoolbooks for Junior Cycle students

From September 2024, free schoolbooks and classroom resources, like copybooks, journals, calculators and dictionaries, will be provided to all Junior Cycle students in the Free Education Scheme.
